GW Fins Offers New Dining Experience with Catch and Cook Program

NEW ORLEANS – GW Fins is a James Beard nominated staple restaurant in New Orleans’ French Quarter neighborhood and known for it’s different take on seafood dishes.

Chef Michael Nelson has consistently had a policy about using local, fresh fish in the restaurant while also utilizing all aspects of the fish in ways many may not have thought of before.

Recently, however, Chef Michael and team are offering guests a different type of dining experience that is sure to spark the interest of avid fishermen.

The GW Fins Catch and Cook Program offers fishing enthusiasts the opportunity to catch their own meal that will then be prepared by Chef Michael and his team in the kitchen at the restaurant.

The restaurant noted that spring is the perfect time for Grouper, Sheepshead, Drum, Snapper and Cobia, which are plentiful this time of year in the Gulf of Mexico.

Through this program, restaurantgoers can go fishing in the morning, bring their catch to the restaurant and enjoy it later that evening at the restaurant.

When sharing information about the program, the restaurant shared that the team have already prepared dishes such as Drum with a Redfish cracklin’ crust, Crawfish maque choux, sweet corn spoonbread and roasted corn butter; pan seared Red Snapper served with Louisiana Shrimp Creole, long grain rice and crispy okra; and Sheepshead with a parmesan crust along with jumbo lump crab, asparagus, truffled potatoes, crispy capers and a Meyer lemon beurre blanc.

Those who are visiting from out of town, or maybe don’t have access to a boat, the restaurant has recommendations for charter companies that will take guests out fishing. Some may even clean the day’s catch and drop it off at the restaurant for the guest. All that Chef Michael asks, whether you’re dropping off your own catch or going through a charter company, is that all fish be brought to the restaurant by 3 p.m. the day of the guest’s reservation.

The GW Fins team shared, “Whether you’re an avid local fisherman or enjoying a day out on the water while visiting New Orleans, GW Fins’ Catch and Cook Program provides two of New Orleans’ biggest attractions, sporting and cuisine, in one uniquely memorable experience.”

GW Fins, located at 808 Bienville St., is open for dinner seven nights a week.
