Habitat Reopens Construction Volunteer Program

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – For the first time since COVID-19 shut down its popular volunteer program in March of 2020, New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity is welcoming general construction volunteers to build sites. Registration is now open to volunteer on Friday, Aug. 6, and Saturday, Aug. 7, at www.noahhvolunteer.org.

We’re excited to have our supporters back on construction sites helping us provide affordable home ownership for the hard-working families of New Orleans,” said Marguerite Oestreicher, Executive Director of New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity. “While the number allowed each day will be smaller than pre-Covid to allow for health and safety measures, we look forward to bringing our community together once again,” she said.

Those interested should sign up immediately as the number of individuals is limited to 15 each day. Other information:

  • Volunteers can sign up for one day, two days or both
  • Must be 18 years or older; 16 years if accompanied by a parent or other adult
  • A $35.00 per day volunteer fee accompanies each registration (accounts for insurance, materials, tools and cold beverages on site)
  • If interested in volunteering but don’t want to work on a construction site, the NOAHH ReStore retail locations are currently accepting volunteers for immediate service helping customers purchase gently used appliances, furniture, construction materials and household wares.

Future dates for volunteer opportunities on construction sites are the first Friday and Saturday of each month throughout 2021. Questions can be emailed to: volunteer@habitat-nola.org.

NOAHH never stopped building during the pandemic, fulfilling its mission to provide affordable home ownership for the working families of New Orleans. The non-profit is thrilled to now welcome back volunteers to its build sites. Families interested in becoming homeowners through New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity can do so by inquiring here: www.noahhvolunteer.org.
