Ashley Hansen, owner of Hansen's Sno-Bliz, is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the snoball business that her grandparents started in 1939. When Ernest and Mary Hansen first opened their snoball shop, Ernest drew upon the skills he had learned working on the river to invent the city's first shaved ice machine. The fine snow-like ice, coupled with Mary's handmade flavored syrups, attracted devoted customers. Every Hansen's Sno-Bliz snoball also contains a secret ingredient: the long tradition of love that goes into each icy confection. Today, in 2014, Hansen's snoballs continue to delight locals and visitors alike. In this podcast, Ashley tells the story of how her grandfather met her grandmother for the first time. Named a 2014 American Classic by the James Beard Foundation, Hansen's Sno-Bliz is a true icon of New Orleans.
