Kathleen Faherty’s Gretna Academy class poses with New Orleans Magazine‘s 2008 Chef of the Year Sue Zemanick of Gautreau’s. The group consist of 16 fourth and fifth graders who meet every day as part of a school-wide Elective Program, entitled "A Taste of Louisiana.” Students learn about the history of Creole and Cajun food and how the French, Spanish, and African American cultures played a role in the foods that we eat. Once a week is "Guest Chef Day,” in which the invited chef cooks for the students and shares with the class his/her history.
