Breast surgery innovations
Drs. Frank DellaCroce and Scott Sullivan are the founders of the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery, a hospital that’s dedicated to breast reconstruction for women facing cancer. The Center, located on St. Charles Avenue, was established to serve as a resource for women seeking the most advanced methods of breast reconstruction that utilize the body’s own tissue. The numerous procedures include nipple-sparing mastectomies, as well as DIEP and SIEA Flap mastectomies (which employ skin and fatty tissue from the abdomen to restore the breast and numerous other procedures) and numerous others.
Drs. DellaCroce and Sullivan, who are also joined by Dr. Christopher Trahan, are all board certified plastic surgeons who have won numerous awards for their compassion and dedication to this field.
The Center also offers regular EnCourage classes, which provide patients, survivors, caregivers and loved ones to encourage emotional and social support. The classes are free and open to the public, but require reservations.
Scheduled for Oct. 12, the meeting this month focuses on reconstruction options and will recognize National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in partnership with the American Cancer Society and Young Survivors.

Skincare solutions
After the hot, long summer we had, Academic Dermatology office manager Terry Northcott suggests that people get checkups after such prolonged sun exposure for preventative purposes or to fix whatever problems may have arisen, such as sunburns or sun spots.
The five doctors at the clinic include owners Lee T. Nesbit Jr. (who’s also head of the LSU Dermatology department); Leonard E. Gately III; Brian D. Lee; and two associates, Michelle S. Gerdes and Tami L. Charbonnet. The practice has been in business since 1994, and each doctor is a board certified dermatologist. They specialize in a range of treatments, dealing with the clinical aspect of treating skin cancers, rashes and other dermatological problems, and also with what Northcott calls “the lighter side” of skincare, such as filling wrinkles and performing laser surgeries and other cosmetic procedures. Northcott says that the doctors are personable and friendly, and they see patients of all ages. She adds, “everyone should see a dermatologist, even if it’s just to prevent issues. When you’re in your late teens or early 20s, you’re not thinking about fine lines, but there are things you can do to start preventing it, and many of them are very affordable. It’s never too soon to get on some type of skin regime.”
