- In an effort to provide more expedient Emergency Room care, Ochsner Health System is posting “real time” Emergency Room wait times at their facilities as well as online at www.ochsner.org/emergency. This service is intended to allow patients to choose the ER with the shortest wait time before leaving home, especially in cases of non-life-threatening emergencies.
ER wait times are available online for the following Ochsner facilities: 2700 Napoleon Ave.; 1514 Jefferson Highway, Jefferson; 180 W. Esplanade Ave., Kenner; and 2500 Belle Chasse Highway, Gretna.
- Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans has announced that the Honorable Donna Christensen M.D., the first female physician in the U.S. Congress, will deliver the 135th commencement address for LSUHSC’s class on May 16. Christensen’s experience encompasses work as assistant majority whip, and work on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Committee on Natural Resources.
- This month, the American Cancer Society will be holding Relay For Life, an overnight fundraising event, at several locations in the area: Relay For Life of New Orleans Youth is May 8 at Archbishop Rummel High School Track Field; Relay For Life of Kenner is May 16 at Muss Bertolino Playground, 600 W. Esplanade Ave., Kenner; and Relay For Life of New Orleans is May 30 at UNO Lakefront Arena, 6801 Franklin Ave.
ACS Relay for Life events are relays wherein teams of people walk around tracks or paths, taking turns so at least one volunteer is moving at all times; these events raise funds and show solidarity and commitment to the eradication of cancer. - The Orleans Parish Marriage Office (568-3620) is back in Orleans Parish at 1010 Common St., Suite 1245. The Orleans Parish office is the only of its kind that can issue a marriage license for any parish in Louisiana. Marriage licenses cost $27.50 and each extra certified copy is $5.
