According to a recent report from Louisiana Medical News, Louisiana ranks second highest in the United States in breast cancer and fourth in cervical cancer deaths. A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention grant extension and increase for 2014 to ’15 to the Louisiana Breast and Cervical Health Program however, aims to help improve that ranking. The grant will assist the LBCHP in providing additional free breast and cervical cancer screenings, which includes mammograms and Pap tests, to low-income, uninsured and underinsured women in the state.
