The Preservation Resource Center’s Rebuilding New Orleans in New York City fundraiser brought the fun of the Big Easy to the people of NYC. The event took place at the Lincoln Center Allen Room in New York, N.Y., on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m.
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was on hand to address attendees, as was entertainer Harry Shearer. CNN’s Soledad O’Brien accepted the PRC’s inaugural Citizenship Award on behalf of Time Warner, Inc.
Guests enjoyed music performed by New Orleans legend Ellis Marsalis, who played with the Derek Douget Band.
Bob Brown, PRC Board Chair, was on hand for the event. The event was co-chaired by Bernadette and Randy Fertel. Jamie Drake, Wynton Marsalis and Alice Walters were honorary artistic advisors. Bryan Batt, Patricia Clarkson, Eli Manning and Julia Reid were honorary co-chairs.
The Clein/Lemann Esperanza Fund was the event’s lead sponsor. Dr. R. Dale Le Blanc, Dr. Allen R. Calabresi, Dr. Rebecca A. Lillis and the Fertel Foundation were the event’s major sponsors.
In total, the event raised $300,000 for the restoration and preservation of New Orleans architecture.
