More than $225,000 for heart disease and stroke research and education in the New Orleans area was raised May 14 at the annual “Heart & Soul Gala” presented by the American Heart Association’s Greater Southeast Affiliate.

Guests, including Warner Thomas, Pat Quinlan, Mike Pudiak and chairs Dr. Russell and Donna Klein, arrived at The Westin New Orleans Canal Place to enjoy a fine meal catered by the hotel, entertainment from Joe Krown Trio with Walter “Wolfman” Washington and Russell Batiste Jr. and The Stooges Brass Band. Live and silent auction items included a meet-and-greet with Willie Nelson along with an autographed guitar; trips to Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York City; and a private screening for 50 people at Theatres at Canal Place.

Peoples Health, Ochsner, LAMMICO, Tulane Medical Center and Corporate Realty sponsored the grand affair, while WWL-TV personality Doug Mouton emceed throughout the night and Mark Romig acted as auctioneer. Founded in 1924, the American Heart Association remains dedicated to its mission, “building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.”
