Hermann-Grima + Gallier Historic Houses Fall Evening Gala

Betsy Nalty, one of the city’s most cherished philanthropists, was honored by the Historic Houses Society at its Fall Evening Gala on Nov. 6.

The society, a support group for Hermann-Grima + Gallier Historic Houses, pulled out all the stops for Nalty, a fifth-generation New Orleanian with a lifelong interest in preservation and the arts. As the honorary chair, she was presented to guests by Executive Director Susan Maclay and Board President Celeste Eustis.

The site of the soiree was the Garden District home of Deana and Larry Blackburn, which created just the right scene for guests, who were also treated with food including sushi made on the spot by Benni Tampubolon Sushi, cheese and charcuterie by Chef Paris Khalaf and the main buffet by Southern Hospitality Catering. Music was from Jazzmen Entertainment.

In addition to honoring Betsy Nalty, the event raised funds for the historic houses managed by the Woman’s Exchange. The 19th-century buildings represent two different periods in French Quarter history, as reflected through the architecture, furnishings, collections and tours.

Event Co-Chairs were Karen Conner and Marley LeBourgeois.

Fun Fact: Gallier House is currently in Summer Dress, which is when the house (completed in 1860) has its rugs and draperies removed, then has its furniture covered in white muslin and floors covered in sisal rugs or mats, as it was done in the late 19th century to battle heat, dirt and bugs.
