NEW ORLEANS (press release) – With one third of all food produced globally wasted every year, Higgins Hotel & Conference Center is taking action and hosting events for Stop Food Waste Day on Wednesday, April 26. Stop Food Waste Day raises awareness of the issue and inspires others to create change – all a part of its efforts to halve food waste across the globe.
Held on the last Wednesday of Earth Month, Stop Food Waste Day activities are designed to encourage individuals and organizations to adopt small changes that can make a big difference in reducing food waste and protecting the environment.
Chef Virgile Brandel, executive chef of The Higgins Hotel & Conference Center, has created special “Stop Food Waste Day” dishes for the day. Chef Virgile will add to the menu a beignet made with leftover breads and a soup/stew with ingredients remaining from the hotel’s pantry. In addition, the hotel is setting up an awareness station in the lobby that provides the community more information on “Stop Food Waste Day.”
