On March 30, the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans celebrated the 30th anniversary of its still popular “Julia Jump” benefit. The soirée’s setting at the Ritz-Carlton New Orleans Hotel—itself an example of preserving the past, as it was once the Maison Blanche department store—created just the right mood. The patron party began with music by the Frenchman String Trio, while Deacon John and the Ivories brought their tunes to the party later that evening.
At the party, 600 guests were treated to local cuisine from 24 of New Orleans’ finest restaurants. Sarah Hillery and Nini Scriber co-chaired the auction, which was full of treasures—more than 140 of them—including a new Vespa LX 150, jewelry from Sabai, art by Jean Bragg, a stay at Monmouth Plantation in Natchez, a spa package from Bamboo Apothecary and a Peyton Manning autographed hat. Approximately $150,000 was raised for Preservation Resource Center programs, such as Operation Comeback, Rebuilding Together, African-American Heritage Preservation advocacy and the magazine Preservation in Print.
