NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Hogs for the Cause is a 501c(3) organization that unites barbecue culture nationwide to provide aid to families while their child is being treated for pediatric brain cancer. Year-round efforts culminate in an annual two-day music festival and barbecue competition, combining over 20 contemporary bands with over 75 competing barbecue teams. Currently, Hogs for the Cause operates as the premier funding source for the cause and has given over 1,000 direct grants to families in need and has made financial contributions to children’s hospitals in New Orleans, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Atlanta.

RFID Wristbands
Hogs for the Cause uses only RFID wristbands for entry and food and beverage purchases. Credit or debit cards are linked to the RFID wristbands, making it easier to pay for food and drinks across the festival, without the need to add funds . Wristbands can be registered and connected to a debit or credit card prior to the event at HogsFest.org/Register.
Parking
Free parking on site will be available with both a shuttle to the front gate and an easy 5-minute walk. Attendees are also encouraged to carpool, rideshare, and cab it!

New this year is BACON & WINGS NIGHT.“Just Winging It,” presented by TABASCO, offers a friendly chicken wing competition, while Bacon Night presented by Irpino, Avin, and Hawkins Law Firm returns for a 4th year of competition. Guests have an opportunity to mingle with the pitmasters and teams while they are preparing their meats for Saturday’s competition. In addition to BBQ samples, each team will honor the hog by creating their own unique bacon dish or wings that will be available for sale. The dishes can be previewed on the Hogs website. Hogtails, beer, wine, soft drinks and food will also be available for purchase.

The Ben Sarrat, Jr. Cookoff:
75 teams of BBQ competitors, comprised of a mix of some of the region’s top chefs, professional BBQ teams and backyard cooking fanatics, will compete for the Ben Sarrat, Jr. Cook-Off Grand Champion Title. The Grand Champion is chosen from the winners of the Whole Hog, Ribs, Pork Butt/Shoulder, and Porkpourri (anything pork) divisions. There are also awards for Best Sauce, Fan Favorite, and Fundraising Champion. Patrons may sample food from every team for donations. Bring your appetite and your favorite fork!
