NEW ORLEANS (press release) – HI USA, a national nonprofit and division of the international network Hostelling International, will open its doors as the largest hostel in the New Orleans area and the first of its kind to open as part of the redevelopment of the Canal Street corridor. The HI New Orleans hostel greatly exceeds the scope of a traditional lodging facility, offering far beyond just bunkbeds and brews. The hostel features five floors of modern accommodations, cultural programming and eco-friendly design including a dramatic cistern in the lobby to address citywide water runoff challenges.
Once the Pickwick Social Club, HI New Orleans Hostel’s location was originally constructed in 1896 and leases the upper floors from a family-owned New Orleans landmark, Fischer’s Jewelry. HI New Orleans will welcome guests from around the world, as well as serve as a resource to locals who want to venture abroad. This supports HI USA’s purpose to create a more tolerant world.
