Celebrating 15 years of dedicated service to the elderly community of New Orleans, Meals on Wheels hosted its fundraiser this past Sunday, January 11. The swanky W New Orleans Hotel partnered with the charity as the fabulous locale, and also garnered some help with the addition of partners Stiletto Vodka and Jacob’s Creek. Right after the patron party, held at Zoë Lounge on the second floor, guests gathered at the main event to pay tribute to the evening’s Honorary Chair, Dr. David Newsome. As the man responsible for initiating the New Orleans Meals on Wheels Fund, Newsome has made great strides since Hurricane Katrina in ensuring the program performs at its best, reaching approximately 500 homebound elderly. In keeping with the culinary tradition, fine area restaurants showcased their cuisine for guests; Muriel’s Café Sbisa, K Paul’s and Andrea’s were among the dining destinations providing bites to the more than 400 attendees. Deacon John and the Ivories kept people on their toes, and live and silent auctions provided guests ample opportunity for garnering great swag. All proceeds from the event benefitted the organization, which has been serving the community since 1972.
