If you are watching season 5 of Netflix’s “The Crown,” you may have come away with two thoughts – one, Prince Charles is no Dominic West and two, Elizabeth Debicki is spot on as Princess Diana, especially when it comes to recreating her wardrobe. From tailored suits to shoulder-bearing cocktail dresses, Diana knew how to express herself through clothing and the costume designers for the show took note. Diana pushed the boundaries of the compulsory royal fashion in small but noticeable ways. A bright colored frock would speak for her when she felt silenced or an oversized accessory asserted her power, while also conveying the metaphorical weight of that power. It was no easy feat to be Princess Diana, but she pulled off the fashion component flawlessly. Her clothing became a shining light through her own darkness and dysfunction, and she became an icon for strong women all over the world. Let’s see how we might style a few of her looks today!
