Hurricane Ida Disaster Fund Established by The Louisiana Bar Foundation

Image001NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The Louisiana Bar Foundation has established a Hurricane Ida Disaster Fund and we are seeking donations now to help local organizations doing on-the-ground response work to help families ASAP. “We have activated the hurricane disaster fund to aid our network of civil legal aid providers that work extraordinarily hard to meet emergency needs and protect our most vulnerable population,” said Christopher K. Ralston, the 2021-22 president of LBF.

This weekend marks two weeks since Hurricane Ida tore through Southeast Louisiana, causing extensive damage to homes and leaving many families displaced. After a disaster of this magnitude, civil legal aid needs are dramatically increased as those affected experience a variety of legal issues. Many families need help with successions and title clearing to access federal recovery dollars. Domestic violence centers become overcrowded with individuals seeking asylum. Vulnerable children need protection due to family instability and separation. The economic security of the elderly is in jeopardy. Their stories are powerful and heartbreaking. We need your help now more than ever.
