How did your career in design begin?
I began my career working in the healthcare field but needed a change that felt more authentically me, so I took my lifelong passion for design from hobby to profession. Initially designing vignettes & props styling for magazines in Austin, I began to find some success, even designing for a few national publications. Soon I was graduating to designing rooms and later whole homes.
How does working in New Orleans inform your design aesthetic?
I work in a modern classic / updated classic, new-traditional style but since moving here, I’ve found that everyone wants a little piece of the vibrancy & dynamism of New Orleans in their homes. The city has such a hold on people that they want it in their primary residences and even vacation homes.
What would you say informs your design aesthetic?
Travel first and foremost. I love living and breathing a new culture and discovering the ways their designs have stood the test of time. Often, I’ll be out to dinner and discover some minute details in my surroundings that will get me designing right there at the table.
How do you best build a good relationship with your clients?
I consider the relationship I have with clients as more of a friendship; that’s why I have so many repeat customers from all over the country. My goal is to fulfill their dreams for the space and the satisfaction they get when we hit the mark is such a joy to witness.
What is the importance of a well-designed space?
A comfortable room is all about the marriage of form and function, with both of equal importance. In the modern era, with so many people working from home, it’s more important than ever that the space they occupy illicit the proper mental space. Finding that balance takes some work, but is so very rewarding when done just right.
