Andrew Woodward Downing is a seventh grader at Stuart Hall School for Boys, and he’s very active in his community. Volunteering with the Miracle League has been one of his most rewarding experiences. Last spring, Downing was paired up with a buddy – a boy who’s autistic and has ADHD – to help him play […]
Blayne Yves Laborde and James Davis Bonham were introduced through a mutual friend at a party in 2008. Instantly they were inseparable and, as they say, the rest is history. Two years later, while home for the weekend for the Osiris ball, Davis purchased a ring from Friend & Company and later that week, Davis […]

What a spring! Funds were raised for good causes, glasses raised in praise of birthdays and celebrations and there was general merrymaking all around. There was a royal wedding in England (come now, admit you watched it on the telly). That very evening a reception was hosted by the Royal Society of St. George in […]

We still have time to enjoy a June night without too much heat; capitalize on this by planning an outdoor soirée. My husband, Johnny Church, has an incredible collection of 1950s and ’60s 45 records that we have on our jukebox, and dancing is almost always a part of our dinner parties. The key to […]
June is National Candy Month, but who designated it so? Perhaps the same masterminds behind National Dairy Month, also in June. While I’ve staved off osteoporosis with a daily habit of peanut butter cup ice cream for the past decade, this mix of candy and dairy surely isn’t for everyone. Pairing confections with cheese is […]
[gtx_gallery] Blue and white gingham-draped tables and buffets on old cedar doors greeted guests with” a backyard, juke joint feel at Legacy Donor Foundation’s “Soul Revival 2011” on April 8. The Tree of Life Bar, a circle bar with a lighted tree and hearts hanging from the branches, added to the backyard decoration. For cuisine, […]
Thirty years ago, Children’s Hospital’s fundraiser, the Sugarplum Ball, helped the organization put its first intensive transport care team on the road in tandem with the opening of its Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. This year, in a grand anniversary celebration, the annual gala helped raise funds for its own medical transport helicopter, allowing staff to race to gravely ill children who need emergency care. The Sugarplum Ball, “Fund-racing at the Sugarplum Stakes” – a horse racing theme – was held at the New Orleans Fair Grounds on April 1.
Co-chairs were Julie Habetz and Amanda Lo. Guests were treated to libations and cuisine from various local restaurants and they witnessed honoree David Haydel St. fêted for his generous donations to the hospital over the years.
