It’s Human Nature

American Red Cross Humanitarian Ball honors George Shinn.

The Southeast Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross knows that humanity, one of the principles of the organization, is vital in our area. Each year the chapter recognizes a local individual, business or group that has made things better for our community. And so, the ninth American Red Cross Humanitarian Ball was held at the Audubon Tea Room July 16th with Hornets owner George Shinn as the guest of honor.

Red Cross volunteers welcomed guests to the happy evening gathering. The motif was red and black with large chocolate basketballs donated from Merlin Candies gracing each table. Appropriately, Hornets’ announcer Bob Licht was the Master of Ceremonies and Shinn was introduced by the President of the Hornets, Hugh Weber. Kay Wilkins, CEO of the chapter, presented Shinn with his award. A silent and a live auction led by Chuck Mutz tempted guests to bid on truckloads of winnings, including an autographed Hornets basketball and a Cartier watch. Music by Tom Hook & Swing Cats kept the night lively.

Among those in attendance were Chair Kathleen Robert with husband Dr. Kearny Robert; board members Ryan Berg, Alvin Cooley with wife Mary, Bev Nichols, and Frank Tessier with wife Carly; Rebekah Cain; Bob and Linda Merrant; Laura Paul; Kristen Ponlthier; and Morgan Williams.
