It’s in the Stars

The use of astrology in determining compatibility and even influencing the wedding day and surrounding details is a practice used in many cultures around the world. It was a big part of the Netflix hit “Indian Matchmaking” that premiered earlier this year. Matchmaker Sima Taparia made sure it was front and center for most of her matches when trying to find her clients their future spouse.

But, it’s less common for couples in the United States to turn to astrology during their decision-making process. (Kelly here: not that I truly follow this, or would let it influence my wedding, but I have always checked my astrological compatibility with people I’ve dated. As a water sign and a Pisces that leads with her emotion, I have to make sure I’m understood, right?) Recently, we received an email from Martha Stewart Weddings magazine that had a feature on what your Zodiac sign says about your individual wedding style. Though this was meant to spark inspiration and not dictate or claim to be spot on, we still thought it was an interesting concept but, we’ll admit, were a little skeptical.

The writer Ellie Finn sought the expertise of astrologer and life coach Tracey Rodgers for her best predictions on each sign, as well as link to a complete planning guide for each astrological sign.

Aries (March 21 – April 19):

Rodgers says, “As the first sign in the zodiac, you’re accustomed to forging ahead and trailblazing. This confident determination is a quality that pops up in many aspects of wedding planning and has a profound effect on your decisions on everything from your engagement ring to the wedding venue and beyond.” She says that Aries are lovers of experiences and that you’ll be more energized by the number of tasks to complete for the wedding rather than drained by completing your to-do list. New Year, Same You

As we ring in the new year, many of us are familiar with the cycle of making resolutions, especially when it comes to health...

Taurus (April 20-May 20):

Rodgers says, “With so much going on, many brides find themselves either micromanaging every last detail or giving up and leaving it to fate (or their wedding planner). But you don’t fall into either camp. Instead, you pick and choose the details that matter and give them your all, while conserving energy on the stuff that doesn’t rate on your priority list.” Taurus is destined to have good taste when it comes to wedding planning, a quality, Rodgers says, will extend from your gown to the reception food. Taurus is more likely to get swept up in the materialistic items, trying to people please and create an unforgettable experience, and needs to step back and not let that blind you from the experience. Gemini (May 21 – June 20):

One word is used to describe a Gemini wedding in the article: unpredictable. “Geminis are notoriously hard to nail down or put into boxes, so when your save-the-date arrives in the mail, guests simply won’t know what to expect,” says Rodgers. “The good news is that your Big Day is essentially a blank slate for you to experiment with and explore.” However, they note, because it’s a blank slate, the opportunities can be overwhelming for a Gemini. They advise to not get caught up in the rollercoaster ride of planning and to spend a lot of time researching before making decisions. You can see the full Gemini planning guide here.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22):

Cancer is the crab, and Rodgers says that couldn’t be a more misleading description. “As the most nurturing and sensitive of signs, people often flock to you for comfort and reassurance,” said Rodgers. “During wedding planning, however, you may find that you’re the one in need of counsel. While it’s OK to rely on your family and friends, trust in your instincts and believe that you truly know what’s best (spoiler alert: you do).” For Cancer, family is a key part of your wedding planning and will influence all aspects of your Big Day. However, they advise to not force too much onto your family members, as you’re probably the only one that cares which color the napkin rings will be. See the full Cancer planning guide here.

Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22):

The Leo is the lion and Rodgers says when it comes to their Big Day, Leo doesn’t shy away from the spotlight, warning not to lose yourself in all the drama of the day. “While you may be surprised by our expert’s guess for your bridal party, trust in your creative instincts,” says Rodgers. “You are the ultimate entertainer, so many of your decisions will be based upon your guests’ enjoyment and happiness, which is a quality that never goes unnoticed.” You can read the full Leo planning guide here.

Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22):

Rodgers says, “A multitasker at heart, it’s almost as if the Virgo bride was designed to plan a wedding with its numerous to-do lists, moving deadlines, loads of record keeping, and seat-assigning. Just be sure you don’t wear yourself down in the process.” The meticulous planning and high standards of a Virgo will be evident when the Big Day arrives. Rodgers urges that the Virgo planner trusts that everything will be perfectly aligned and to not get caught up in the worrying. You can see the full Virgo planning guide here.

Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 23):

The Libra is considered the ultimate peacemaker and a wedding is where their diplomatic skills will be put to the test, while showing off your meticulous taste and great eye for the details. “You’ve always been one to beautify — whether it’s yourself or an expertly wrapped gift. Some just have that special touch, and you are one of them,” said Rodgers. “With a strong sense of who you are, your wedding celebration will be a pure reflection of your style — and guests will be sure to take notes!” You can read the full Libra planning guide here.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21):

According to Rodgers, the Scorpio is considered the mysterious one of the zodiac signs and people will not know what to expect when it comes to their wedding. Rodgers continued, “Along with that mystery comes a loyalty and passion few can match, so it’s bound to be a day full of heartfelt details. It seems Scorpio leans toward the unconventional side of planning — so prepare your friends and family for a celebration the likes of which they’ve never seen before.” You can read the full Scorpio planning guide here.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21):

There is nothing impossible for the Sagittarius and Rodgers says the same standards apply when planning a wedding. Rodgers continued, “You might stress out vendors with your grand ambitions but your vision is always spot on. You’ve always taken pride in being the social chair for your friends, so it’s no surprise you’re determined to make your wedding the event of the year.” You can read the full Sagittarius planning guide here.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 20):

The Capricorn is one of the busiest signs of the zodiac, with many things filling their plate at one moment. It’s crazy to think a Capricorn can add wedding planning into their stack of to-dos, but according to Rodgers they do it with grace. “As the determined, steely goat you are, you likely won’t trust anyone else to organize the day to your sky-high standards,” says Rodgers. “While it’s possible to be a little too harsh on we know it’s all for a good cause. The Capricorn bash is less focused on the bride and groom and more so about ensuring all of your guests have a great time.” You can read the full Capricorn planning guide here.

Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18):

According to Rodgers, the Aquarius wedding day is a blank slate just waiting for your innovative mind. This also moves you away from anything traditional or what you’re “supposed to do.” The Aquarius planner uses their gut feelings and intuition as a guide for planning. “As a result, your day will be a celebration that is perfectly, uniquely you,” says Rodgers. “Luckily, you’re not someone who is just ideas and no action. Somehow, you’re the perfect combination of creative dreamer and pragmatic problem solver all in one.” Read the full Aquarius planning guide here.

Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20):

The Pisces is an old soul focused on bringing out the emotion of a wedding day. Pisces planners are focused on making sure everyone is comfortable and all eyes are on the important elements of the ceremony. “While planning will no-doubt become the biggest part of your life for a bit of time, be careful to not let it take over,” says Rodgers. “You’re prone to giving things your whole heart and whole attention, so be sure to give yourself the same love and care during this time you always offer everyone else.” Read the full Pisces planning guide here.
