Jewel of the South & Chris Hannah to Host Burns Night

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Established in the United Kingdom but celebrated worldwide, Burns Night pays homage to the Scottish poet and lyricist Robert Burns (25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796) who was known as the “Ploughman Poet” among many other epithets. Having become a cultural icon and well-loved poet on an international scale, Burns Night celebrates both his life, death, and the wonderful works he’s left behind.

Jewel of the South and Monkey Shoulder invite you to join them in the festivities Sunday, Jan. 26 in the traditional way! From 7 p.m. 8 p.m. there will be bagpipers and an “Address to a Haggis” in which Burns’ famous poem of the same name will be recited. Imbibers will have the opportunity to see bar man Chris Hannah work his magic behind the bar and enjoy cocktails like the Rusty Nails made with Drambuie and Scotch whisky; and the Bobby Burns made with scotch, vermouth and Bénédictine liqueur. A haggis special and the full à la carte menu will also be available.

Jewel of the South and Monkey Shoulder’s Burns Night Party will take place on Sunday, Jan. 26 from 7 a.m. – 12 a.m. Jewel of the South is located at 1026 Saint Louis St.
