JLNO Kitchen Tour

saturday, april 16, 2011

Welcome to the Junior League of New Orleans Kitchen Tour, Saturday, March 27, 2010. The Junior League of New Orleans Kitchen Tour will feature a self-guided walking and driving tour of 13 remarkable kitchens in the Uptown and Lakeview neighborhoods. Here in New Orleans, where food and cooking are woven into the fabric of our lives, culture and city, there is nothing better than an insider’s peek at some of the kitchens where these things are celebrated best. Each of the 13 tour kitchens varies in style, structure, materials, innovation and layout and offers something for everyone. The newest addition to the kitchen tour this year is cooking demonstrations: Chefs from Domenica, Flaming Torch, Arnaud’s, Bacco, Green Edible Schoolyard and Ochsner Hospital will be cooking in a special “bonus kitchen”throughout the day and offering expert cooking tips and savory samples.  All recipes featured will be from the Junior League of New Orleans’ collection of award- winning cookbooks.  Whether you like to cook, eat, design or admire, our kitchen tour is sure to please.

Join us Thursday, March 25, 2010, as we celebrate the tour in New Orleans style with a kickoff party at Latrobe’s on Royal Street.  The kickoff will be a party like no other with a new location, great food, specialty drinks, live music, and must-see auction items.  We want to give a special thank you to Adler’s for their dazzling donation of a Cartier watch to be raffled!

All proceeds from kitchen tour sales will benefit the multiple community projects of JLNO, serving the at-risk population of metropolitan New Orleans through charter school outreach, nutritional programming, children’s health services and youth development.  This year, JLNO will put more than $320,000 and nearly 10,000 volunteer hours into improving our community.  These initiatives currently include Second Harvest Lagniappe Backpack Program, KaBOOM! Playground Project, Samuel J. Green Charter Edible Schoolyard, Lafayette Academy Charter School, Safe Sitter in connection with The Parenting Center at Children’s Hospital, Rebuilding Together with the Preservation Resource Center, Get on Board ––Nonprofit Board Training, Power Ties with New Orleans Outreach, Kids in the Kitchen and the Louisiana Children’s Museum.

The Junior League of New Orleans is a nonprofit organization of more than 2,000 women volunteers committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.  Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.  Today the Junior League of New Orleans is the 10th largest of 292 Junior Leagues across the United States, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom.  Many of this region’s most effective and enduring organizations and community programs were originated, developed, funded and staffed by the Junior League of New Orleans, including the Louisiana Nature and Science Center, The Parenting Center at Children’s Hospital and the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans.
We extend our sincere thanks to our many sponsors and to the homeowners who opened their homes to make the 2010 kitchen tour unique, exciting and great.  We are most grateful to our member volunteers and the Junior League staff who worked to plan and support this impressive event.
