NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Audubon Nature Institute is joining with other accredited zoos and aquariums from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to raise funds for the Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund. The fund supports Zoos Victoria’s relief efforts for Australian wildlife affected by the bushfires.
Donations will support emergency veterinary care and scientific intervention, such as exploring supplementary feeding for the animals who have survived but whose habitats have been destroyed by the bushfires.
How you can help:
- Donate directly to the Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund HERE.
- Donate in person at any Audubon Zoo, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, or Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium front gate during normal facility operating hours.
- Round your purchase up to the nearest dollar or make a donation to Audubon during check out at any Audubon retail location, and Audubon will donate 10% of your round-up to the Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund.
- Purchase a limited-edition koala or kangaroo plush at the Audubon Zoo Marketplace gift shop through January 31 – Audubon will donate all proceeds to the Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund
“Our hearts break for the people and animals that are being devastated by the Australian bushfires,” says Audubon Nature Institute President and CEO Ron Forman. “We hope that our support, and the support of our AZA peers, will offer Australian organizations like Zoos Victoria the support they need to recover from this unprecedented disaster.”
In past years, Audubon has helped to support efforts for Hurricane Harvey, Disney’s Protect the Pride, Invest in the Nest, and SAFE: Saving Animal From Extinction. In a collective effort, 228 AZA-accredited and certified related facilities reported spending approximately $231 million in 2018 on conservation efforts impacting more than 888 species and subspecies, in nearly 130 countries.
