KID smART to Receive $40,000 Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – KID smART is pleased to announce it has been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for a Grants for Arts Projects award of $40,000.

This grant will support KID smART’s Creative School programming. In total, the NEA will award 958 Grants for Arts Projects awards totaling more than $27.1 million that were announced as part of its first round of fiscal year 2024 grants.

“The NEA is delighted to announce this grant to KID smART, which is helping contribute to the strength and well-being of the arts sector and local community,” said National Endowment for the Arts Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, Ph.D. “We are pleased to be able to support this community and help create an environment where all people have the opportunity to live artful lives.”

KID smART’s Creative Schools foster an educational landscape of equitable instruction, empowered teachers and joyful engagement in learning. This program allows teachers to learn to take risks with their teaching methodologies while still meeting existing curriculum standards and improving overall academic success.

“We are delighted to have received this prestigious award to put towards our Creative Schools program,” said Elise Gallinot Goldman, executive director of KID smART. “At the core of our mission lies the commitment to actively involve children and educators in dynamic, creative and relevant learning through the arts. This grant not only validates our endeavors, but also acts as a driving force in pushing us forward on this meaningful journey.”

Founded in 1999, KID smART provides public school students with greater access to arts-rich education. In its almost 25-year history, KID smART has served more than 63,000 students and 11,000 teachers in schools throughout New Orleans. With the belief that the power of the arts should be available to all New Orleans children, KID smART works within public schools to reach underserved children with the most to gain from an arts-rich, social-emotional education.
