Brian Kern owns and operates Krewe of Boo, New Orleans’ popular Halloween parade. For the last five years, Kern has been working not only to promote this very unique Halloween parade, but also to create a week-long series of Halloween-themed events. In this podcast, he gives a glimpse of what parade-goers should expect when the 2017 Krewe of Boo parade rolls through the French Quarter on Oct. 21. Kern also describes the New Orleans Zombie Run that will bring runners in zombie or monster garb on a two-mile run from the Warehouse District to the Vieux Carré. Blaine Kern, one of the biggest names in the art of float making in the world, is Brian’s father, and Brian learned early on how to throw a spectacular party. Unlike New Orleans’ Carnival parades, the Krewe of Boo will have corporate sponsors. Brian explains why he believes that corporate sponsorships and New Orleans’ parades do not need to be mutually exclusive.
