NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The historic Krewe of Carrollton, one of the oldest and most beloved Mardi Gras Krewes in New Orleans, is excited to announce its 100th Anniversary Parade. This milestone event promises to be a spectacular display of the Krewe’s enduring spirit and commitment to the Mardi Gras tradition.
Founded in 1924, the Krewe of Carrollton has been a staple in the Mardi Gras festivities, known for its vibrant parades, exquisite floats, and lively performances. As the Krewe gears up to celebrate a century of revelry, this year’s parade, themed “A Century of Memories,” is set to roll through the streets of New Orleans on Feb. 4 at 12:30 p.m.
“As the reigning King and Queen of Carrollton, we are deeply honored to lead the Krewe into its centennial celebration,” shared King Carrollton 2024, William Ello III & Queen Carrollton Emilie Kyle Saucier. “This 100th anniversary is not just a milestone for the Krewe but a celebration of the enduring spirit of New Orleans itself. The 100th Anniversary Parade will feature an array of breathtaking floats that pay homage to the Krewe’s rich history and the cultural tapestry of New Orleans. Spectators can expect to see a mix of traditional designs alongside modern interpretations, each float telling a story from the Krewe’s storied past.
Captain Wayne Lee, a long-standing member of the Krewe, expressed excitement about the upcoming celebration: “This is a momentous occasion for the Krewe of Carrollton and the city of New Orleans. We are thrilled to share our 100 years of history and joy with both the local community and visitors from around the world. This year’s parade will be a true testament to the spirit of Mardi Gras and the unique culture of our beloved city.”
To honor this momentous occasion, past kings and queens from over the years will be included in this year’s Tableau Ceremony, which takes place during the formal Ball on Friday, January 2. This will be followed by a 100th Anniversary on Saturday, January 3, the night before its historic ride. The krewe also holds a second line parade through the French Quarter the morning of the parade.
In addition to the signature throws seen each year, such as the beloved Carrollton Shrimp Boot, riders will be sharing a series of commemorative items that include 100th Anniversary Doubloons and cups.
