Fresh out of college, Rebecca King found her first swim coaching position with Love Swimming in 2002, a journey sadly sidelined by the aftereffects of Hurricane Katrina. It was after another hurricane, Ida, that Rebecca returned to Love Swimming as an instructor and found for herself a calling teaching everyday people, from babies to adults, the techniques needed to become proficient swimmers. Today, serving as Director of Love Swimming, Rebecca’s journey has come full circle, allowing her the chance to expand the swimming community of New Orleans even further, both in and out of the pool.
“Learning to swim is the most important life skill to learn,” says Rebecca. “The breakthrough moment, that first confident stroke, is one of the most satisfying milestones for anyone. Helping someone to get over deep-rooted fears and guiding them beyond their fear to confidence is one of the most uplifting experiences.”
