Lady Lamb

Tender Warriors Club – EP

Any new release from Aly Spaltro, otherwise known as Lady Lamb, is like receiving an intricately wrapped present. Spaltro creates intricate narratives in her songs that are at once personal and universal. The multi-instrumental Spaltro crafts each element of her tracks personally before taking them into the studio. This planning and control makes for a finished product that is distinctly in the character of the Lady Lamb persona that she has created. Spaltro is at her best when she cuts to the heart of our collective experience of the large and small moments of life. She is able to capture the logic of the internal conflicts that make these experiences so confounding. In the track “Tangled” she explores the interwoven nature of love, “I never want to see you again, but I long to see you soon.” For Spaltro these emotions do not spring from nowhere, they are grounded in the hopes and fears of the individuals that are inhabited by them. The illogic of the conflict is rendered logical through the subtle variations of the tracks themselves. The power of the music comes from the context she gives to these moments. As our narrator, Lady Lamb presents the moments that matter and the logic behind their creation. As each layer of the songs falls away we are left with Spaltro and her overwhelming voice at the center of it all. Tender Warriors Club is another fascinating collection of songs from Lady Lamb. She’ll be in town doing a living room show on Ash Wednesday. Tickets go on sale today at 2pm and will be very limited. Check out the new track “See You” below.
