Lafayette Is Bursting With Visual Arts

With so many opportunities to take in locally-made visual art in many mediums, this weekend is ideal for anyone artistically inclined or attuned. This week’s Artwalk, which occurs on the second Saturday of every month, coincides with the weekend of local film festival Southern Screen. This compounds the usual faire available at Artwalk with locally made films and a workshop in storytelling. Everyone will be downtown, and particularly at the Acadiana Center for the Arts (ACA).

11/9: Shorts Series: All Friday afternoon and early evening, the ACA will host a series of short films, including some artist Q&As. The films run the gamut of being made locally or internationally, and there will be three series in total. The first Shorts Series begins runs from 1:30-2:35 p.m., the second from 3:20-4:35 p.m. and the third from 5:20-6:15 p.m.. Cost of entry is a $15 day pass or a festival pass.

11/10: “Bending Lines: The Sculpture of Robert Wiggs”: This Saturday at noon, the ACA will screen this documentary about the late Lafayette sculptor and his obsession with nature’s geometry. The film was written and directed by couple and creative team Allison Bohl DeHart and Peter DeHart. Cost of entry is a $15 day pass or a festival pass.

11/10: Freelancing for Creatives with NOVAC: This freelance workshop will detail the business aspects of creative freelancers through reviewing industry standards. Attendees can expect to gain insight on pricing, best practices for clients, and ways to protect your work and manage your time. Participants will leave the workshop with a client intake folder, which includes a design survey, a proposal template for scope of work, a contract, and more. NOVAC staff and independent documentary producer Darcy McKinnon and illustrator and graphic designer Julia Berghammer will conduct the workshop.

11/10: November Artwalk at Gallery 333: Located at 333 Monroe St., Gallery 333 will host works by local photographers, mixed media artists, and painters. Artists include photographer Olivia Perillo, painter Stephanie Michelle Roig, mixed media artist Bob Borel, and more. Lafayette photographers Paul Kieu and James Billeaudeau will host this showing with the help of Jacob Danos and Brittany Boudreaux of Gallery 333.
