The New Orleans Yacht Club (403 N. Roadway St.) hosts weekly races every Wednesday. They welcome novices and can train new skippers or provide crews in order to encourage participation their sport. You can also sign up for sailing lessons with the American Sailing Association at Murray Yacht Sales (6510 Spanish Fort Blvd.).
Dropping A Line
Sport fishing and crabbing (Pontchy is home to plenty of Louisiana blue crab) are good excuses to kick back with the ice chest and your best “buds.” There are also pavilions and grassy fields all along the Lakefront for grilling and picnicking.
