Every summer, all season long, each neighborhood in New Orleans boasts a favorite snow ball stand.
Discussions take place regarding which stand has the best syrup for these tasty, truly local treats, and when these discussions die down – usually without anyone being convinced of another point of view – new discussions take place about which combinations of syrup are best.
Alas, the school year begins and football games replace weekends on Interstate 10 heading to and returning from the beach. And with that, the snow ball stands close, leaving the general populace still craving the sweet indulgence with few places to slake the desire for the cold, sticky indulgences.
In September, the warm weather continues, so we suggest that adult snow balls are now in order. Try this one made with shaved ice, or just pop a few cubes into a bar glass. They are easy to prepare, so you won’t miss kick-off.
