Le Petit Theatre Announces New Season

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Le Petit Theatre is excited to announce our 107th Season starting this October. The season is filled with comedy, music and plays by two of America’s leading playwrights! Subscriptions are on sale now, and single tickets for the season opener will go on sale October 1. Here is the lineup for the 2022-23 season:

October 20 – November 6, 2022

THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG

Written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields, this comedic farce is filled with chaotic fun. Winner of Best New Comedy at the 2015 Laurence Olivier Awards, the play follows the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society in their effort to put on a production of “Murder at Haversham Manor,” a 1920s murder mystery, but nothing can go right. Will these accident-prone thespians make it to the final curtain call?

January 12 – January 29, 2023

THE COLOR PURPLE

This Tony and Grammy-nominated musical, based on the Alice Walker novel, is set in the early 20th century American South. It spans the life of Celie, an African American woman with dreams of escaping her husband’s control to reunite with her loved ones. Despite being oppressed, Celie embarks on a remarkable journey toward empowerment and self-love complimented by a joyous musical score.

March 9 – March 26, 2023

CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF

Tennessee Williams’ 1955 Pulitzer-Prize winner for Drama follows the familial struggles of the Pollitts in their patriarch’s Mississippi Delta plantation home. Maggie, a young ambitious in-law, is determined to solidify her role in the family, but her husband Brick is preoccupied with past longing. This iconic classic is being presented at Le Petit Theatre in conjunction with the annual Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival.

April 20 – May 7, 2023

AUGUST WILSON’S HOW I LEARNED WHAT I LEARNED

Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright August Wilson, “How I Learned What I Learned” is Wilson’s poetic one-man autobiographical show journeying through love, adversity and self-discovery in the Hill District of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he grew up. Originally performed by Wilson himself, this is a stunning self-portrait of one of the strongest voices in the history of American theatre.

May 18 – June 4, 2023

THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHTTIME

Based on the novel by Mark Haddon, this seven-time Olivier Award-winning play follows the mathematically gifted, 15-year-old Christopher as he uncovers the mysterious murder of his neighbor’s dog. Amid his investigation, he discovers hard truths about his family while navigating social norms and communication with others in a thrilling adventure!

Matinee performances start at 3:00 p.m. and curtain time for evening performances is 7:30 p.m.

Season subscriptions are on sale with ticket prices starting at just $15. Le Petit is also offering Blue Star subscriptions for active military, as well as Educator Subscriptions for full-time educators (both for 50% off). Single ticket prices range from $25-$65 for adults and $15 for students with ID. Save 20% or more by purchasing a season subscription.
