Leadership, History

The Jewish Children’s Regional Service invited over 200 guests to the J.W. Marriott Hotel on the evening of Feb. 23, for their Jazz It Up gala, where Phyllis S. Stern was honored with a Sara Stone Board Leadership Award for her commitment and dedication to the organization. Sara Stone served as the honorary chair; co-chairs for the evening were Mimi Schlesinger and Vivian Cahn.

The gala event featured clarinetist, Dr. Michael White and his quartet; White reviewed the history of jazz in New Orleans with a musical medley from the periods of jazz and some narrative facts, all accompanied by projected historical images of both the city and Jewish institutions.

The JCRS is a 152-year old regional agency that serves dependent and needy Jewish youth and it’s the only regional Jewish agency in the U.S with its headquarters in the Greater New Orleans area.
