Let It Grow

At the “Feast with the Stars” jazz brunch sponsored by Entergy, the Parkway Partners Board of Directors proudly selected Jackie Clarkson to receive the 2014 Green Spirit Award, honoring her tireless advocacy for New Orleans green spaces. The award was designed by local glass artist Eric Hess and was presented at the Patron Party at the Whitney Bank Lobby on St. Charles Avenue preceding the main event.

Plants provided by the Department of Parks and Parkways lined the hallways while fall colors and plants brightened the stairway. Allan and Laura Querens decorated the halls with balloon bouquets, and Nell Howard donated centerpieces of succulent plants. The Messy Cookers Jazz Band and the Last Straws trio serenaded guests as they dined on delicacies from 14 local restaurants. Partygoers could partake in a sinfully delicious Dessert Room sponsored by Shell while enjoying the sounds of The Mardi Gras Chorus. Libations included a Bloody Mary with special garnishes designed by the NOCCA Culinary Institute, a vodka mint and peach punch, and café au lait.

Auction items that created a buzz included: a Krewe of Orpheus float package for two, a 2013 signed Saints football, tickets to Saints and Pelicans games, Susan Spicer’s Chef Collection – including chef’s jacket, cookbook and lunch at Bayona – NellRae Simson Pottery, a cabin stay in a Louisiana State Park and gift cards to many fine New Orleans restaurants. Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Mark Schleifsein and wife Diane supported the raffle of a wine basket.

More than 240 guests were in attendance to support Parkway Partners ongoing efforts to plant trees and support community gardeners and schoolyard gardeners.
