When throwing a festive wedding-related event, it’s important to not get too carried away in a holiday theme. That elegant soirée can turn into a tacky cliché with even just one too many Santas. How can you make sure your holiday-inspired event stays classy and on track?
Here are a few of our tips. If you have your own, let us know in the comments below.
- Stick with red and green accents, but break it up with silver, gold and white.
Red and green are complimentary colors, which allows for a striking combination. But it can go overboard quickly. Try different shades of red and green, while breaking it up with pops of silver, gold or white. Consider a white table cloth, red or green table runner, and pair with gold crumb catchers along the length of the table for a sit-down dinner and gold serving trays for a buffet-style event.
- Stay away from cartoonish decorations.
Instead of sticking Rudolph wherever there’s an empty space, think simplicity. Use flowers to create a reindeer outline with wooden floral sticks for the antlers and the red flower of your choice for the nose.It gives the same idea without having a cardboard cutout crowding your seating area.
- The holiday season is more than just Santa and reindeers.
Think snow, the smell of pine trees, hot cocoa and other winter-related options. This ensures that the more Christmas-themed areas of your décor will stay under control.
- Another option is festive holiday cocktails.
These cocktails give party hosts the option to get creative with Christmas-themed drinks, humorous names and the perfect place to add a Rudolph-themed pun.
Though the ever-popular “tacky Christmas sweater” party is a great option for your holiday soirée, it doesn’t always lend to wedding-related fêtes. Remember to favor elegance and simplicity over zany and more is more.
Coco Chanel is rumored to have once said, “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.” So before you welcome your guests, remove one Santa (or more) from your decoration situation.
