Baton Rouge General’s Two Campuses
In response to your recent article “Louisiana’s Top Hospitals,” I’d like to thank you for your efforts to educate consumers on the importance of hospital quality – well done! To clarify, Baton Rouge General is one licensed hospital with two campuses (Mid City and Bluebonnet), and this honor and the data supporting it covers both campuses. On page 47 of the July-August issue, our hospital is listed “Baton Rouge General Medical Center – Mid City.” We are concerned that the reference to just one of our campuses might mislead consumers. Certainly, we recognize this is not the error of the magazine, but rather the entity providing the information; however, we felt it necessary to request that the listing be corrected. Your help and consideration is appreciated.

Preventing Parvo in Puppies
I am writing in reference to the July-August issue of Louisiana Life. First of all, I enjoy your magazine and am happy to receive it as part of my LPB membership. Secondly, I am a practicing Louisiana veterinarian, which directly relates to my reason for writing today. On page 64 of the issue referenced above, in the article “Preventing Parvo In Eunice,” I believe there is a major misprint. Specifically, the last paragraph of the article states that to vaccinate against parvovirus in puppies, vaccinations “…beginning at age 6 months will keep parvovirus at bay.”  Most veterinarians I know (myself included) begin vaccination against parvovirus when the puppy is 6 to 8 weeks of age with boosters given every 3 to 4 weeks until the puppy is about 4-and-a-half months of age. A majority of the cases of parvovirus that we see are in unvaccinated or inappropriately vaccinated puppies in the age range of 2-and-a-half to 5 months of age. Hope this helps.
