If you are like me, still catching up after last week’s snow, you may have forgotten that Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Yes! Very inconveniently, it lands smack dab between the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras – both of which require copious amounts of planning and energy. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love grand romantic gestures and extravagant gifts from time to time, but sometimes, it’s just not the year. Life is moving at warp speed, and I barely have time to sit down, let alone orchestrate a picture-perfect Valentine’s celebration.
But here’s the thing, love isn’t just about romantic moments, it’s built on the small ways we show up for each other. There are so many components of a lasting relationship like trust, support, and passion, but this year, I’ve decided to focus on just one; humor. Because, let’s be honest, without laughter, life can wear on you. Humor brings levity to the daily grind of parenting, home, work, and an ever-growing list of extracurricular activities. It’s what helps us survive the chaos. For my love, I’m seeking a silly gift or two to honor humor as one of the most important pillars of our relationship. Something lighthearted, something ridiculous, something that reminds my husband that even though we disagree on 1,000 other things, our sense of humor is not one of them.
