Lighting Options to Refresh Your Home

When I want to refresh a room in my home, my go-to quick (sometimes not so quick) fix is to change up the lighting. I’m always amazed at how just this one switch can change the mood of the entire room. Take for example our study; this room has gigantic windows providing buckets of natural light. So much so that the wall space behind our artwork is a different color than the wall, the sun has bleached the rest a different color. It’s very well suited for daytime activities like when my son plays with his WWE wrestlers, thwarting them from the couch to the floor, or a little cozy Sunday morning reading. But this all changes in the evening. Despite the two beautiful and sizeable lamps perched on our smooth oak desk, the room becomes uninhabitable around 5 p.m. Something must be done! In my efforts to mend this practical issue, I also have the opportunity to make fun, impractical design choices. I can’t help but imagine how a pop of color in the rather monotone room might add a touch of much needed whimsy.

Luckily, for a small city, New Orleans has plenty of lighting resources. Contemporary spots like Jade Home, Eclectic Home, Tyler & Tate and Estella’s have great options. As do one-of-a-kind antique shops like  Lucullus, Katie Koch, MS Rau, Balzac. Julie Neill, Sazerac Stitches and Sara Schoenberger are also fabulous and designed in New Orleans.

While I’m still searching for the perfect overhead light for our study, I’m enjoying every minute of the hunt. My next stop will be Textures Warehouse sale this weekend! Wish me luck!
