The development of CRISPR and the race to create vaccines for coronavirus will hasten our transition to the next great innovation revolution. The past half-century has been a digital age, based on the microchip, computer, and internet. Now we are entering a life-science revolution. Children who study digital coding will be joined by those who study genetic code.
The event, at the home of Tony and Katherine Gelderman on First Street in the Garden District, will be outside, socially distanced, and fully masked.
It will honor Britton Trice, a lifelong friend of Walter Isaacson, who opened the Garden District Book Shop 40 years ago in the Rink Shopping Arcade at the Corner of Prytania St. and Washington Ave.
GDBS is one of the most prominent independent bookstores in the Gulf South, having played a role in launching the literary careers of authors from Anne Rice to James Lee Burke. The Garden District Book Shop has featured signed copies of each of Walter Issacson’s books over the past decades. One month ago, a new generation came into the management of GDBS. Partners Christopher Tidmore, Barkley Rafferty, and Carroll Gelderman took over daily management. Britton Trice remains a consultant and guiding light of the book shop.
