More than 10,000 people showed up to Kenner’s Laketown for the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation’s annual “Back to the Beach Festival, ” June 2 and 3. The theme was “Surf’s Up” and two days of bands and delicious food kept people entertained, while a nice breeze off Lake Pontchartrain made the weekend comfortable. There was also a run/walk race and a car show, which
featured over 300 different cars. Later in the month, the patron party was held at Two Lakeway Mezzanine. Catering was provided by the Marriott New Orleans Metairie at Lakeway, and guests grooved to music by Bobby Cure and the Summertime Blues.

They also sipped on specialty drinks such as Bacardi mojitos and key-lime pie martinis, among others. In keeping with the theme, the party was decorated with beach balls, fish balloons and surf boards. Tables were adorned with arrangements of roses, snapdragons, alstromiera, lilies, bamboo and other flowers by Thibodeaux’s Florist. A silent auction raised over $8,000, with items such as a honeymoon package, hotel gift certificates, restaurant packages, fine art and more. Proceeds benefit the LPBF, which is dedicated to restoring and preserving the lake.
