Location Spotlight: Bevolo Lighting Museum

The hustle and bustle of everyday life passes in front of the open doors of 318 Royal Street. A short stroll through the French Quarter brings you to an inconspicuous New Orleans building that houses the Bevolo Gas & Electric and Lighting Museum. New Orleans Bevolo Gas & Electric has been producing gas lamps for 75 years. The museum space is in a circa-1800s building, clad in the original brick with exposed cypress beams.

It is believed that the space was originally a private residence with the front being a carriage area. In the 60s the back of the location was a printing shop before being turned into the museum space in 2013. Bevolo began having events in the space later that year.

“I think what people love the most is that it’s very rustic looking,” says Bevolo Event Coordinator Jessica Lanzkowsky. “People tend to rent out distressed furniture and you don’t really have to decorate.”

When planning an event or wedding and reception at Bevolo, couples can bring in everything. The pews, a few tables and the benches are all available to be utilized to any aspect of the wedding and party. Any licensed caterer is welcome at the facility.

New Year, Same You

As we ring in the new year, many of us are familiar with the cycle of making resolutions, especially when it comes to health...

One of the most striking features of the location is the private interior courtyard that connects the front area to the back workshop and museum. Surrounded by exposed brick, the quaint area is embellished with wrought iron accents and lush greenery. The space is perfect for a small ceremony or fun, outdoor dance floor.

The space is available to accommodate 65 seated guests and between 100 and 125 for cocktail style. The entirety of the first floor is included for couples, as well as a small bridal suite for the brides and bridesmaids to get ready.
