If you walked too quickly, you’d probably pass right by it. At 916 Lafayette Street in the Central Business District sits a three-story, three-bay green brick building that houses CellarDoor. For the past three years, CellarDoor has been a hot spot in the CBD. It’s rich history and stellar cocktail list, make for the perfect New Orleans happy hour combination. The chic NOLA gastropub is now offering something to those looking to expand their parties to events of all kinds.
Originally built in the 1830s as the Swoop-Duggins House, the building has seen many forms, including its use as one of the longest running brothels in the city, and is considered one of the oldest “houses” still remaining in downtown New Orleans.
Three years ago, the owners decided to take the structure and turn it into a modern oasis for young professionals. Earlier this year, they opened the second floor of the building for use as an event space.
Brides and grooms alike can now utilize the space for their wedding and party needs. Plan a happy hour arrival party for friends and family, sit down for a chic rehearsal dinner or even plan your ceremony in the courtyard followed by a reception soiree on the second floor, decorated with modern and contemporary art by local artists.
Couples can buy out the whole venue or customize the space to their specific needs. The upstairs area holds a maximum of 70 guests – jumping to 100 once the plans for an added balcony come to fruition – 40 for a sit-down, more intimate affair and the entire building holds up to 200 people. The courtyard can accommodate 25 seated guests for a ceremony event and additional guests can view from the smaller walkway as the couple exchanges their vows.
Three bar areas are available for guests to sip and socialize – the main bar inside the first floor, the courtyard bar, and now a newly-customized bar on the second floor. The couple can work with the chef to deliver a customized menu to delight guests, as well as request their own favorite cocktail to be served as the signature drink of the evening.
A standout addition to an already long list of amenities, CellarDoor offers newlyweds overnight, Airbnb accommodations on the third floor of the building. Couples can get down, dance the night away and walk right upstairs to a cozy private honeymoon space.
