Have you ever felt that just being in a location instantly makes you cooler? Within moments of walking through the doors of the Old No. 77 Hotel and Chandlery, we felt as if our cool factor instantly rose by at least 10 points. Just blocks away from the French Quarter the hotel is nestled between Tchoupitoulas and Lafayette St. An inviting lobby area, pillow menus and the delicious Compere Lapin restaurant run by chef Nina Compton all add to the Instagram-worthy vibe and feel of the Old No. 77 Hotel and Chandlery.Â
The building that now houses the hotel was originally built in 1854 as a coffee warehouse. It was then bought buy E.J. Hart & Co. and used as a chandlery and general wholesale business, which supplied trade in all things necessary for sailing and ships to stock for their voyages. For the past few decades, the space housed the Ambassador Hotel.Â
Â
The name of the Old 77. Hotel and Chandlery comes from the building’s previous address of 77 Tchoupitoulas St. and often referred to as its address instead of its name.Â
In tune with the building’s history, the hotel still houses a chandlery selling items from local companies such as Dirty Coast, Tchoup Designs, Kinfolk Collective and Mad Darling. Likewise, keeping with the local angle, the hotel’s art and gallery house works created by NOCCA students and faculty.Â
Â
The Old No. 77 Hotel has many amenities fit for true New Orleans brides. The meeting room space is a perfect fit for a smaller 30 to 40 person cocktail hour – 25 seated – for an engagement party, rehearsal dinner or anything between. Bring in your own caterer for appetizers and small plates or have your event catered by Compere Lapin. Compere Lapin is also available for private parties such as rehearsal dinners or bridal showers. For guests looking for a slightly larger gathering space, the hotel has partnered with The Chicory and Race + Religious to work with their brides and grooms.Â
Additionally, for bridal parties and spaces needed for day of festivities, the hotel holds three large suites with gorgeous, original exposed brick walls and a convenient sitting area perfect for lounging around during hair and makeup applications.Â
