Location Spotlight: Saint John

Food and celebration are two things in which New Orleans and its inhabitants are veritable experts. So, it should come as no surprise to anyone that there are a plethora of restaurant event spaces available for any sized celebration.

Recently, we had the pleasure of perusing Chef Eric Cook’s new French Quarter venture Saint John. Many know Cook by his Lower Garden District restaurant Gris-Gris and from stints at some of the city’s top restaurants. Saint John is located on historic Decatur Street serving what Cook calls “Haute Creole” or an elevated version of true Creole cuisine.

The new restaurant has a third-floor private event space ideal for a rehearsal dinner, bridal shower, small wedding reception or other wedding-related festivities.

The space is customizable and spacious with catering derived from the restaurant’s menu. For events, the space can entertain 30 guests seated and 40 cocktail style with custom prix fixe or reception style food and beverage menus.

The menus include passed hors d’oeuvres like crispy oysters with Cajun Caviar, crab ravigote on toasted brioche and root beer braised pork belly, to name a few. As well as an option for a cheese and charcuterie board. Show us someone who doesn’t love a good charcuterie board! The buffet menu option has starters such as crawfish remoulade on fried green tomatoes or the gumbo du jour; entrees including  Gulf fish court-bouillon fillets or short rib beef daube with whipped potatoes; and carving or action stations like prime rib, pork loin and shrimp and grits.

Additionally, and maybe one of our favorite elements, the event packages come with different tiers of unlimited beers and wines.

Breakdown of the space includes capacity of up to 40 depending on the event layout, standard room rental of three hours (with additional time added for a fee), a lounge area, bar and dedicated private event staff.

Not included in the room rental rate is tables, linens, chairs and any other items the couple would like to add (i.e. decorations, photo areas, and so forth).
