On the corner of St. Claude and St. Roch avenues sits a historic building that has been serving its community since 1875. St. Roch Market offers members of the surrounding community the chance to shop locally and support New Orleans restaurateurs from around the city. The recently renovated, open-concept, southern food hall houses 13 independently-owned restaurants serving breakfast, lunch and coffee daily, along with local produce, and now serves the community in another way.Â
Oliver’s Variety sits directly next to the market, sharing St. Roch Avenue. The two-story, bright white building is now available to rent for parties and events. More importantly, it is the perfect venue for wedding-related celebrations.Â
The newly, and historically-restored building has 16-foot ceilings and walls lined with work by neighborhood and local artists. The first floor gives more of an industrial vibe with concrete treated floors and huge, floor to ceiling windows giving an open and modern look. The full first floor seats 65 to 70 and upwards of 100 for cocktail-style.Â
Â
As you travel up the stairs to the second floor, you’re transported into a more typically New Orleans-style interior with wood floors, exposed brick and a vast balcony overlooking both St. Roch and St. Claude avenues. Arguably the best aspect of the second floor is the exposed brick fireplace adjacent to the bar, overlooking the balcony. The second floor seats 50 and holds 60 for cocktail.Â
Â
You can rent out the floors individually or the entire building, which holds 300 guests for a cocktail-style event. Included in the facility rental fee is chinaware, flatware, glassware, servers and bartenders. Tables, chairs, linens and decor is not included and must be provided for the event. The market is used for catering. Couples can pick from the vendors and customize a menu to suit their needs. A total market buyout is also an option, with the entire St. Roch Market completely rented out with a limited menu from each of the vendors.Â
Â
Oliver’s Variety offers couples and event organizers an authentic New Orleans experience and insight into the St. Roch area. It extends the authenticity and history of the market into a celebratory space for an event for any occasion.Â
