NEW ORLEANS (press release) – From May 10 to May 19, Longue Vue will be celebrating Go Public Gardens Days with a variety of special events and programming, including onsite scavenger hunts, children’s activities and exclusive giveaways! Go Public Gardens is an initiative of the American Public Gardens Association designed to drive more people to visit, value and volunteer at public gardens across the country. Here are five ways you can support this initiative locally:
- Friday, May 10 – National Public Gardens Day: FREE Community Day & FREE green lanterns for the first 50 guests
Longue Vue is offering free garden admission to all guests all day Friday, May 10. They are asking businesses and community members to “light up” green in support of their local public gardens. The first 50 guests to show up will receive a free green lantern to bring home.
- Sunday May 12 – Story Time in the Discovery Garden & Trunk Show ft. Textile Artist Kate Beck: FREE Garden Admission for trunk show attendees & complimentary mimosas for moms
Families can enjoy complimentary story time with garden admission on Sunday, May 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Longue Vue’s Discovery Garden. Local textile artist Kate Beck will be hosting a trunk show from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Longue Vue is offering free garden admission to all trunk show attendees and complimentary mimosas for all moms.
- Wednesday, May 15 – Twilight Poetry Edition: showcase ft. local poets, with a special focus on “spring blooms”
On Wednesday, May 15, 5 local poets will recite works focused on nature, springtime, and a theme of Go Public Gardens Days, “spring blooms.” Enjoy this special edition of Longue Vue’s Twilight series, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. See the full line up HERE!
- Sunday, May 19 – Story Time in the Discovery Garden: complimentary story time with garden admission

- Now through May 15 – FREE Picnic Giveaway for up to 4 people: win a free picnic by Kirsten Design Co and Martin’s
Guests can win a free picnic for up to 4 people for the final Go Public Garden Day, Sunday, May 19, by entering Longue Vue’s Instagram giveaway. The giveaway includes a stunning picnic designed by Kirsten Cavaliere of Kirsten Photo & Design Co, food by Martin’s, and complimentary drinks and garden admission from Longue Vue.
