NEW ORLEANS (press release) – From May 12–21, see special light displays, art activities, live music and signature cocktails as Longue Vue House & Gardens marks Go Public Gardens Day 2023, an ongoing campaign by the American Public Gardens Association (APGA) to highlight public gardens as a rich community resource.
Friday, May 12 – Go Green Lighting
Festivities kick off May 12 with the unveiling of “Go Green” lighting at Longue Vue and an invitation to the community to showcase their own green lights on social media (#GoGreenLighting, #GoGreenLighting2023).
Monday, May 15 to Friday, May 19 – #ArtForPublicGardens
A series of interactive art activities combine creativity and learning. Art tables will be set up with supplies and garden “fun fact” cards on APGA’s daily theme (including IRIS, TREE, CACTUS, TULIP, and BEE) and prompts for creating a unique piece of art while viewing garden elements in a new light.
Wednesday, May 17 – Twilight at Longue Vue
KatieCat & Cain ft. the Hiptones perform at Twilight at Longue Vue, kicking off a summer season sponsored by Goldfarb Financial. The popular outdoor concert series features extended hours, snacks and cocktails available for purchase, and picnic seating on the grass of Spanish Court. Special additions during Go Public Garden Days include illuminated Go Green Lighting and signature cactus cocktails in honor of APGA’s daily theme.
“We are thrilled to be part of Go Public Gardens Day,” said Baty Landis, Executive Director of Longue Vue. “Through this initiative, we hope to create more awareness around our national public gardens and serve as a reminder of the communal healing we can all experience through the beauty of nature.”
Go Public Gardens Day is an important initiative that highlights the essential role of public gardens in our lives. Longue Vue House & Gardens is proud to be part of this movement, and we hope to inspire our community to join us in celebrating public gardens and taking care of our natural spaces.
