NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) announced the return of local Alfred Banks for an electrifying performance at Market Nights, the LPO’s chamber orchestra series at the New Orleans Jazz & Blues Market. The concert will take place Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 5:30 p.m. and will be conducted by the LPO’s Adelaide Wisdom Benjamin Music Director Matthew Kraemer.
Organizers share the LPO and Banks reunite to push the boundaries of orchestral and hip-hop fusion. This performance also features arrangements by Sebastian St. John, a Louisiana-born composer known for his expertise in bridging the divide between classical traditions and contemporary genres.
“Collaborating with Alfred Banks reflects what the LPO is all about: honoring the traditions of orchestral music while celebrating the incredible talent that makes New Orleans unique,” said Anwar Nasir, LPO executive director. “Hip-Hop is a major player in New Orleans’ vibrant culture, and it’s powerful because it speaks to the human experience. Working with artists like Alfred helps us celebrate the more voices and stories of our community, and we’re hyped to witness the magic unfold with him and the LPO.”
Multi-award-winning, Grammy-nominated rapper and singer Alfred Banks has earned national acclaim and international recognition. Named one of Complex’s “10 Upcoming New Orleans MCs,” his music has been featured in The Fader, HipHopDx, Okayplayer, and DJBooth. He has toured extensively, including with the Grammy-nominated group Tank & the Bangas, and his collaborations include the Soul Rebels, whose song “Greatness” became the televised NCAA Tournament anthem in 2019.
Banks’ music has been featured on soundtracks and campaigns ranging from Netflix (Burning Sands) to Disney+ (The Crossover), Volkswagen, and Peloton. His viral project SaxKixAve garnered millions of views across social platforms, while his solo albums—including The Beautiful and One Guy Standing By Himself—have charted in the iTunes Top 10 Rap/Hip-Hop rankings.
