Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra Highlights January 2025 Concerts

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) highlights January performances of family-friendly celebration of Carnival season with LPO Academy students, musical tribute of Hurricane Katrina anniversary with Terence Blanchard and more.

MOZART & TCHAIKOVSKY 
Wednesday, Jan. 8 | 6 p.m. | New Marigny Theatre 
Thursday, Jan. 9 | 7:30 p.m. | Fuhrmann Auditorium (Covington) 
Tickets: $35-$67 
LPO’s popular chamber music series continues with a nod to the style and flair of Mozart with works by Ibert, Saint-Georges, Tchaikovsky, and Mozart himself. 

LPO HAPPY HOUR: CHICKIE WAH WAH 
Friday, Jan. 10 | 6 p.m. | Chickie Wah Wah 
Tickets: $20 
Cheers to the new year with drinks and live music by LPO strings and percussion members. The program presents a journey to Hollywood with string music made famous by iconic blockbusters like Top Gun: Maverick. 

FAMILY CONCERT: LPO CARNIVAL! 
Saturday, Jan. 11 | 10:15 a.m. | Louis J. Roussel Performance Hall 
Tickets: $20 
LPO kicks off Carnival season with a family-friendly concert with a Mardi Gras flair featuring Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals featuring LPO Academy string students, Harry Belafonte’s “Jump in the Line,” Rebirth Brass Band’s “Do Whatcha Wanna,” and more.

SYMPHONIC DANCES BY WEST SIDE STORY 
Thursday, Jan. 16 | 7:30 p.m. | Orpheum Theater 
Tickets: $35-$125 
All-American program with works by Gershwin, Barber, Ellington, and a finale featuring Leonard Bernstein’s energetic music from Broadway’s iconic West Side Story. Violinist Sirena Huang joins the program in her LPO debut. 

A TALE OF GOD’S WILL (A REQUIEM FOR KATRINA) 
Saturday, Jan. 18 | 8 p.m. | Orpheum Theater 
Tickets: $40-$125 
Grammy-winning trumpeter, composer, and New Orleans’ son Terence Blanchard returns to the LPO to remember and reflect on the 20 years after Hurricane Katrina. The evening features his Grammy-winning album, “A Tale of God’s Will: A Requiem for Katrina.” 

RACHMANINOFF SYMPHONY NO. 2 
Wednesday, Jan. 29 | 7:30 p.m. | Orpheum Theater 
Tickets: $35-$125 
LPO performs Rachmaninoff’s most famous work, Symphony No. 2 along with living composer Carlos Simon’s Four Black American Dances, and Haydn’s trumpet concerto featuring LPO’s Principal Trumpet Alex Mayon.
